Iverson Dominates Round Two of 906 SIM League Spring Series
Despite technical issues in last week’s opening round of the 906 SIM League Spring Series opener at Lanier National Speedway, Robby Iverson was able to rebound with a dominant performance in week two at South Boston Speedway. Things got off to a strong start for Iverson in practice, a session in which he clocked the fastest time. Cameron Clifford continued his speedy start to the series with a quick second place run in practice. New to the league this week was Nick Leisner who acquainted himself with things quickly with a time fast enough for third in the practice session. Iverson would again show the way on the time charts in qualifying, turning the fastest lap. Unsurprisingly, Cameron Clifford followed him in second, much like in the hour long practice session that had just concluded. Another newcomer to the league, Christopher Bouplon, would run third fastest.
At the conclusion of the first green flag lap of the 100 lap race, a three car jam session collected Chuck Carmin, Brian Massicotte, and Nick Leisner on the front stretch, bringing the yellow flag out for the first time. On the restart, Iverson jumped to the lead with Clifford in tow.
Behind the leaders, a great battle broke out for the fifth position between Duane Franklin and yet another new driver to the league, Scott Hoffman. Lap after lap, the two drivers dueled side by side, Franklin on the inside and Hoffman on the outside. Eventually, the battle went the way of Franklin. Not long after, Hoffman would spin and collect the outside wall after the lapped car of Brian Massicotte made contact with him, bringing out the race’s second caution flag.
On the restart, the action would heat up for the top spot as Robby Iverson and Cameron Clifford raced door to door, swapping the lead lap after lap. Again, it would be Iverson prevailing to lead the way. In spite of a late race restart, Iverson held on to the lead until the checkered flag flew, leading 95 of the 100 laps on his way to victory. Following the race, Iverson credited his win to patience and saving his tires until it was time to go full out. “I saved the right front the first half and just went for it in the second half.” Iverson said in the iRacing text chat. Tires also played a role in runner up Cameron Clifford’s race, the only other driver to lead the race aside from Iverson. “Fun racing again tonight,” Clifford said, echoing his statements following his week one victory. “I gave it my all to try and pass Robby,” he added, “ but I burnt the tires up!” In third place was league newcomer Christopher Bouplon, backing up his third place qualifying effort. Bouplon complimented the league’s competitive but clean nature, stating it was some of the best racing he had experienced on iRacing. “It feels like friends racing, honestly,” Bouplon stated post race. “This is something I will definitely be looking forward to in the coming weeks!” Below are complete results as well as the current top 10 in the point standings, in that order.
