UPIR Continues 2019 Season Preparations

The 2019 UPIR Season is just over a week away and preparations ongoing to ensure the track is in perfect condition come opening night Saturday, June 8.

Since the door closed on the 2018 Season, the UPIR 906 Raceway has essentially become a brand new racetrack. Yes, it is still an oval and roughly the same size but fans will notice several changes when they take their seat in the grandstand on opening night.

Changes to the track include the addition of a retaining wall on the outside of the tracks four turns which now encloses the track perimeter, new catch fencing, a wider surface, as well as almost double the banking in the corners. UPIR President Chuck Carmin is hopeful the changes will bring better racing.

“The increase to the width of the track will add a lot more side by side racing and some different lines for people to try throughout the night,” Carmin said, “It will make everything more competitive for everybody.”

The track isn’t the only thing changing this year at UPIR as some tweaks have been made to the schedule as Championship Night moves to the Fair Race date on August 18. This year’s Art Richer Memorial event falls on June 29 while EMP Fan Appreciation Night takes place July 27.

Before the season gets underway, however, drivers are set to take to the “New” UPIR 906 Raceway this Sunday, June 2, for an open practice.

Opening night for the 2019 Season at UPIR 906 Raceway is June 8, with racing starting at 6 p.m. EST. Gates will open at 5 p.m. EST.

The Rose Racing Report will have full coverage of both events and the remainder of the 2019 UPIR Season at www.3Rreport.com, as well as its social media links.
